99 Days to Pentecost: Day 3
Day 3 - February 16, 2021
Passage: Colossians 3:9-10 (Read Full Chapter)
9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him-
"Practicing the New Self"
Written by Pastor Richard Kim
Christian life is about taking off old practices and putting on new practices (v. 9-10). Paul teaches us that IF we have been raised with Christ (v. 1) and have died with Christ (v. 3), we are to PUT TO DEATH or PUT OFF our old practices (v. 5-9). Then, we are to PUT ON new practices (v. 12-14).
Old practices of our former self: Sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, covetousness/idolatry, anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene talk, lying to one another.
New practices of our new self: Love, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, forgiving one another.
We are to especially put off/put on these practices in our marriages (v. 18-19), family (v. 20-21), work (v. 22-25).
How do we do this?
We must SET OUR MINDS on Jesus and SEEK HIM (v. 1-2), We must let the words of Christ dwell in us richly (v. 16). When this happens, the peace of Christ will RULE in our hearts (v. 15) causing us to PUT OFF our old practices and PUT ON our new.
Are you a Christian? What do your practices/actions say? Set your minds on Jesus, Seek His Word and may Jesus RULE in your heart.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for making me new. Please strengthen me to put off my old practices and to put on the new. Amen.
