99 Days to Pentecost: Day 95

Day 95 – May 19, 2021

Acts 24:24-25 (Read Full Chapter)
Now some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and responded, “Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will summon you.”

“Jesus was right!”
Written by Pastor Samuel Pyo

After his trial with Felix, Paul is called into Felix’s quarters, and Felix asks to hear about faith in Christ. It feels like Felix is initially interested in learning more, hearing about Jesus and learning what it means to grow in faith, until Paul starts to talk about “righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come.” This frightens Felix, and he dismisses Paul to call upon him later when the opportunity comes.

This passage reminds me of Jesus’ teaching to the rich young ruler. He tells the rich young ruler to sell all that he has and follow Him. Instead, the rich young ruler walks away disheartened for he was a man with much wealth. Jesus then says that it is hard for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. It was the rich young ruler’s love for money that kept him from loving and following Jesus. Is there something that is keeping you from loving Jesus wholeheartedly? Let us check our hearts and ask the Lord what may be keeping us from a completely committed relationship with Jesus.

Take time to reread Acts 24 and prayerfully reflect on God’s Word to you through this chapter.
