99 Days to Pentecost: Day 13
Day 13 - February 26, 2021
Hosea 4:6 (Read Full Chapter)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Since you have rejected knowledge,
I also will reject you from being My priest.
Since you have forgotten the Law of your God,
I also will forget your children.
“The More You Know”

What is the “lack of knowledge” that is referred to in verse 6? It might be better translated as the lack of His truth or His ways. Or, simply put, they had a lack of knowledge of the ways of God. Israel had been chosen by God to be His anointed people. They were to be a guiding light to the rest of the world. But they were influenced by the people around them more than the other way around. They were to be God’s representatives on earth, pointing to the one and only righteous God. But the Israelites were just as corrupt to the people around them. The difference was that they believed their anointed status as the chosen people of God would save them. They believed that they were privileged or entitled to a pass from the judgment of God. Often, we feel that we are saved by our special status. But, the truth is that we are saved by Him who grants us that special status. Sometimes, we behave as if our “status” is more important than His righteousness… His judgment… or even Him. Lack of knowledge is not a lack of intellectual capacity as if all we needed was some type of “abracadabra” or magic incantation to solve life's difficulties - lack of knowledge is not knowing His ways. “Knowing” is not just a mental exercise; rather, it involves being moved in your heart and applying that knowledge with your hands and feet. Later on, we learn that Israel was already exiled from their God, they just didn’t realize it in their comfort. The Spirit of the Lord had already left them.
Prayer: Help us to never take You for granted. We never want to fall into the trap that we abuse the wonderful privileges that You give us. Heavenly Father, In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
