99 Days to Pentecost: Day 12

Day 12 - February 25, 2021
Hosea 3:1 (Read Full Chapter)
Then the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by her husband, yet is committing adultery, as the Lord loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”

“Unexpected Love”
Written by Pastor Won Kim

“Go, take for yourself a wife inclined to infidelity, and children of infidelity; for the land commits flagrant infidelity, abandoning the Lord” (Hosea 1:2) contrasted with “Go again, love a woman…” (v. 1) shows the persistent tenderness of our loving Father.

We as Christians live under a truth that makes no sense. We were all slaves under sin. We would be ecstatic to simply be free of slavery, to be free of sin. Yet God not only promises freedom from sin , but also adoption as heirs. Freedom is great, but being adopted by God means that we have a place we belong, a spiritual family around us, and a rich inheritance in Christ.

It would be like owing back taxes to the IRS, but finding out that not only were those back taxes forgiven, but the IRS would also be buying you a new mansion. Imagine rear-ending somebody, and not only did they let you go without needing to fix the car, but they also wanted to buy you a brand new car instead.

God doesn’t say “Go again,” put up with that woman, or bring her to your house so that the neighbors don’t gossip, or accept her as damaged goods to augment your own righteousness. He says “Go, again, love a woman” as a reflection of His heart to us, the unfaithful. In those wonderful words, we see that God’s heart is not only to release us from our sins by paying the price to free us from bondage, but also to do something wholly unexpected: to love us unconditionally.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, the magnitude of your love for us is dimmed by our sin, our selfishness, and our blindness. Unveil our eyes and soften our hardened hearts. Help us to feel the weight of the truth that we love You because You first loved us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
