99 Days to Pentecost: Day 5

Day 5 - February 18, 2021
1 John 1:3-4 (Read Full Chapter)
3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.

“Complete Joy”
Written by Pastor Joseph Noh

For the apostle John, everything he heard, saw, and touched (v. 1) in conjunction with the Gospel is equally meant to be proclaimed. Through this practice, eternal life and fellowship with God is revealed. God is the Light (v. 5), and we are called as believers to live as ones filled with that Light: to walk in it by practicing truth (v. 6).

Part of practicing this truth is to confess our sins (v. 9). Lack of confession will mean we are walking in darkness and choosing to hide behind our self-righteousness. Though it is not always easy, we have incredible assurance in walking with God through confession because in His Light, He will not reject us.

The apostle John makes it clear that the Word of Life bears fruit in us so that we will see, hear, and touch. God does not just speak words. He follows through with action, which becomes a visible testimony to ourselves and others of God’s mighty love and work.

As believers, we are called to share, declare, and testify of our faith to those around us. Our joy is complete because the Gospel is real to us personally in experience and to others in declaration. Let us not be fearful or ashamed, but continue to proclaim how all things concerning the Word of Life are happening in us to one another. We are the vessels by which His grace can abound in others and unify us in the presence of God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we confess openly to you so that your Light would work mightily in our times of darkness, trusting that You alone are transforming us. We desire to testify of Your love so that we may be an encouragement for others to also seek You and hope in You. Be our source of strength to remain diligent in living out this love. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
