Psalms 78:4, 7 (Read Full Chapter)
We will not conceal them from their children, But tell to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done…7 That they should put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments,

“Do Not Let the Next Generation Forget”
Written by Pastor Richard Kim

If you read this entire psalm, kudos to you! 72 verses!

This psalm is written to teach our children to “set their hope in God and not forget His works…that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generous.” (v. 7-8)

The psalmist is recounting the history of Israel from the Exodus out of Egypt to Saul’s kingship. And in this recounting, we see a pattern.

God is faithful. He leads the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land with His great power and miracles. Israel soon forgets what God did, tests God, and rebels against Him. God’s anger is roused, and in His grief, He brings divine judgment and punishment. However, when Israel repents, God—being compassionate—restrains His anger, remembers His promise, and delivers them again.

And this pattern continues from the Exodus with Moses to Saul’s kingship. This psalm ends with God choosing David to be king and calling David to break this sinful pattern by teaching the next generation to not forget God and His ways.

How are you warning and teaching your children so that the sinful patterns may be broken in their generation?

Prayer: Dear Father, we ask for You to cancel any claims the evil one has over our children and bless their generation to be a generation that knows and praises You! In Jesus’ name, amen.
