99 Days to Pentecost: Day 66

Day 66 - April 20, 2021

Hebrews 13:7, 17 (Read Full Chapter)
7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their way of life, imitate their faith...17 Obey your leaders and submit to them—for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account—so that they may do this with joy, not groaning; for this would be unhelpful for you.

“Remember Your Leaders...Obey Your Leaders”
Written by Pastor Richard Kim

In chapter 13, Paul gives two exhortations to members on how to treat leaders. First, he says to REMEMBER your leaders in verse 7. This sentence is in the past tense which means these leaders have all died. Paul commands them to remember these faithful leaders and to imitate them.

The second exhortation Paul gives is to OBEY your leaders in verse 17. This verse is in the present tense which means that these are the current leaders.

The Hebrews were missing their old leaders and not obeying the current ones. Paul says to focus on the present and obey the current leaders that God appointed.

Let us thank God for godly leaders of the past but also obey the current leaders God gives!

Take time to reread Hebrews 13 and prayerfully reflect on God’s word to you this day!
